The 27th Amendment

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the senators and representatives,shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened.

I think that this is an important amendment because it stop congress from giving themselves raises and using up more of our tax money to pay themselves.

I thought that this was a good representation of what this amendment is suppose to prevent

I thought that this was funny and shows what the 27th amendment helps protect us against

The 26th Amendment

The right of citizens of the united states, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or by any state on account of age. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This was an important step and making the people in the military happy because they always argued that they are able to die for their country but they can't even vote.

I thought that this was a good representation of the 26th amendment

I think that this is a good representation of how the amendment was represented but I think that the support has been greatly reduced with today's youth because they don't really care about this type of thing

The 25th Amendment

Section 1.
In case of the removal of the president from office or of his death or resignation, the vice president shall become president.

Section 2.
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the vice president, the president shall nominate a vice president who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both houses of congress.

This amendment set up the plan of succession in case the president or vice president is killed or unable to perform his duties as president.

I thought that this video was very relevant because in this case the amendment would have came into effect

I thought that this image was funny because it represents the stress that could happen and help in this situation by taking that person out of office and putting in the vice president to take over

The 24th Amendment

The right of citizens of the united states to vote in any primary or other election for president or vice president, for electors for president or vice president or for senator or representative in congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or any state by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax

I thought that this amendment was really important because it finally got rid of the poll tax allowing everyone to vote without paying for it.

I thought that this was a good representation of this amendment because it was very important to the poor blacks of the south because it got rid of a way that the southerners where preventing them from voting.

I think that this is a good representation how mad people were about the poll taxes

The 23rd Amendment

Section 1.
The district constituting the seat of government of the united states shall appoint in such manner as the congress may direct: a number of electors of president and vice president equal to the whole number of senators and representatives in congress to which the district would be entitled if it were a state, but in no event more than the least populous state; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the states, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of president and vice president, to be electors appointed by a state; and they shall meet in the district and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment

Section 2.
The congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

I think that this is important because it gives the people living in the District of Columbia some say in what president gets elected, and this is important so everyone in the united states is represented with their votes

I thought that this was a good representation of what the residents are fighting for now.

I thought that this was a good representation of what the core of the 23rd amendment involved

The 22nd Amendment

No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice, and no person who has held the office of president, or acted as president, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected president shall be elected to the office of the president more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of president, when this article was proposed by the congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of president, or acting as president, during the term within which this article become operative from holding the office of president or acting as president during the remainder of such term.

Besides being overusing the word president, this amendment wasn't nearly as important as many of the others I believe because before the two term thing was just a tradition set by Washington, but sometimes more than two terms can do good, if they are a very productive president. If they weren't a very good president then they could just not be reelected the next election. I don't think that people are really that concerned with someone trying to take power such as a king or dictator because the other branches of the government could control them.

I think that it's funny that Nixon tried to repeal this so he could run another time before his scandal. On a side note, I thought it was funny that this is what the Watchmen play off of.

I thought that this was funny because of how popular Roosevelt was

The 21st Amendment

Section 1.
The 18th article of amendment to the constitution of the united states is hereby repealed.

This is a good amendment because it greatly reduced the crime rates again in the united states and because the 18th amendment wasn't really being followed by hardly anyone, and for something as important as an amendment to the constitution to not be followed, is embarrassing for the country.

 After the 21st amendment people like Al Capone didn't have as much of a business as they did before because of alcohol being legal again.

I thought that this picture was funny because it shows how much people were happy with the 21st amendment and how much support it had.

The 20th Amendment

Section 1.
The terms of the president and vice president shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of senators and representatives at noon on the 3rd day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

I think that this amendment was a good idea because it is more up to date then the earlier version of the constitutions days for when the president and vice president begins, which gives them a lot more time to try and fix whatever they want with the economy or foreign affairs or whatever they want to do.

I felt like this was an appropriate picture for why the original date the way it was. It would take forever to move someones things to the white house using this.

I thought that this was funny because it represents what the president is after a new one is elected. With the 20th amendment this time was cut extremely short

The 19th Amendment

The right of citizens of the united states to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This amendment gave women the right to vote. I think its important because the united states is a democracy and after this amendment the right to vote is truly universal.

This is one of the more prominent posters during the time, and i think that it was completely right, women brought all the voters into the world and it was ridiculous that they couldn't vote.

I thought this was a very good photo because it shows how important this amendment was and how much it was supported.

The 18th Amendment

Section 1.
After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the united states and all territory subject to te jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited. 

This amendment banned alcohol. I don't think that this was congress's best idea because of the dramatic rise in crime that it provided.

I think this is how a lot of people felt about the 18th amendment which is why it led to a lot of things like speakeasies. 

I think it's funny how many of these things that they have with uncle Sam in it. It's also funny how many people didn't follow the law and how loosely it was enforced even it being an amendment.

The 17th Amendment

The Senate of the united states shall be composed of two senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures. When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the senate, the executive authority of such state shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies

This amendment sets that there will be 2 senators per state and if there are vacancies the people will vote for a new senator.

I think it's funny that a lot of people want to repeal this amendment just because its not what the original founders had in mind.

Once again, i think it's just really funny that people are so serious about this amendment when there are much more controversial ones.

The 16th Amendment

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived,without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

This amendment allows congress to tax our income.

The 15th Amendment

Section 1.
The right of citizens of the united states to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Section 2.
The congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This amendment gave the former slaves the right to vote.

I think that this picture sums up the amendment well.

The south still found ways to stop blacks from voting

The 14th Amendment

Section 1.
All persons born or naturalized in the united states, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the united states and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce and law which shall abridge the privileges or immunity of citizens of liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

This amendment made all the African Americans that the 13th amendment freed into citizens of the united states, and to those states that they reside in.

 I think that this cartoon is completely true because even though it made them citizens, they still didn't have the same rights as the whites did, and led to extreme segregation of the races.

I think it's interesting how an amendment that was originally for helping the former slaves become citizens, is now being used to try and battle abortion.

The 13th Amendment

Section 1.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the united states, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This amendment freed the slaves and made it illegal in the united states for anyone to do involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime.

 I think that this picture is ironical that it is ironic that it is labeled the 13th amendment with Lincoln's picture because even though Lincoln helped with freeing slaves with his emancipation, it didn't really do anything.

I thought that this cartoon really did emphasize what the 13th amendment did in the short-term because of the slaves being free in the south, the KKK went on the rise and began lynching people

The 12th Amendment

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for president and vice-president, one of who, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as president, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as vice-president, and they shall make distinct lists of all the persons voted for as president, and of all persons voted for as vice-president and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the united states, directed to the president of the senate; The president of the senate shall, in the presence of the senate and house of representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;The person having the greatest number of votes for president, shall be the president, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as president, the house of representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the president. But in choosing the president, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members be necessary to a choice. And if the house of representatives shall not choose a president whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of march next following, then the vice-president shall act as president, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the president. The person having the greatest number of votes as vice-president, shall be the vice-president, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the senate shall choose the vice-president; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice-president of the united states.

Besides being a very long amendment, the 12th amendment is very important because it clarifies the succession of the president if he shall fall ill, and states that the senate will choose the president and vice-president if there is a not a majority in the electoral votes.

This is funny because it's becoming more and more true because of the influence of the internet in today's elections.

This is just an instance where the 12th amendment would come into effect

The 11th Amendment

The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another states, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State.

I think this is very important because it allows individuals who wish to sue the state for some reason or another be heard by a federal court instead of a state court which could weigh the side against the individuals.

Is this guy serious? First I'm not sure what his definition of treason is, but its very construed. Also how does our media cover this stuff up? There is always things on the news about people being kidnapped. Maybe people should be smart enough to know not to go there when it's not safe.

I can't believe that the state would actually rather go to court instead of actually just complying with the ADA's regulations that were set forth.

The 10th Amendment

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

I think this amendment was very important, not just so the anti-federalists would accept the constitution, but also so what laws aren't federal laws, the states can make laws about them because the federal government can't have a law over everything, the states have to have some power as well.

Really?

I think that the people who are really for the legalization of marijuana are going just a bit overboard, so much so the federal government won't get involved, they are leaving it for the states to decide

The 9th Amendment

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

I think that this a good amendment because it protects the rights that are not stated in the constitution, which is very important because not every little thing could be put into the constitution because it would be far too long

I think that it's funny that even attempting to become president for a convicted killer is allowed due to the 9th amendment.

The 8th Amendment

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

I think that this is a very important law because it makes sure that when judges are setting things like bail or punishment, they can't make it to cruel or make it impossible for the individual to pay if it was only something like a misdemeanor.

I think that this is a very good point that is being stated that the court is protecting the grown ups but it doesn't help protect the children that are abused by their families.

The 7th Amendment

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

I think that this amendment is very important when it is adjusted to today's standards, because 20 dollars wouldn't be jury worthy in the slightest.

I think that its funny that people will come up with pretty much any excuse to get out of jury duty

I think that it's funny that at the majority of the judges here have violated the 7th amendment

The 6th Amendment

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

I think this is important because everyone has the right to a speedy and public trial. If this amendment wasn't here  a lot of people would be in jail just because their skin color or maybe their religion, which shouldn't even be considered in the decision.

I think that it's crazy that this lady flip's out so much about this even though it is was a hot topic. I think that she may have been connected to the jury somehow.

I believe that this is true also. There must be some kind of limit on the things that could be on trial.

The 5th Amendment

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

I think that this is a very important amendment due to the fact that people shouldn't be able to be a witness against himself in a criminal case, because that wouldn't really be fair. The part of this amendment i don't agree with is the eminent domain part, because if the land was taken and give fair compensation for the land but sold to a private company to build a Walmart or a mall, that's not really fair. A lot of the times the compensation isn't really fair anyway, it's normally very low.

I thought that this video was a very good and funny representation of some of the self incriminating things that the 5th amendment protects you from.

Really? If you don't ever talk to the cops then it obviously looks incriminating in itself. I think this guy is just trying to get more money for himself because if you go to court over it, I'm sure he'd be happy to represent you.

The 4th Amendment

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I think that this amendment is extremely important addition to the first 10 due to the fact that it protects us from the police or government agencies from violating our privacy.

Wow, this guy must have obviously been doing something illegal because he blew it way out of proportion, but he is right, they have to have permission from the owner or a warrant to be on his property.

I understand that the amendment doesn't directly say that it protects against illegal search and seizure with probable cause but I feel as if it is implied

The 3rd Amendment

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. 

I don't believe that this amendment really has any use now-a-days. Many people argue that it's good to have in there in a just in case circumstances, but if a soldier really really wanted to stay in your house if we were invaded, you would have no choice due to the fact that he has a gun and military training.

I thought that this was a very good visual representation of the third amendment

I picked this video because i thought it was very funny in showing how the third amendment protects you from this sort of thing. 

The 2nd Amendment

A Well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I think that this amendment is very important to the safety of ones family. I don't believe, however, that people should be allowed to keep automatic weapons for safety purposes, or hunting purposes, I think it's just overkill.

I thought that this video was hilarious, even though it doesn't support what I believe

I thought that this was an entertaining was to state the second amendment and what right it gives

The 1st Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This amendment is to me the most important amendment in the constitution. This is what our country was established on; trying to diverge from the oppression put upon us by the king/queen of England.

I believe that it is entirely within their right of freedom of speech, and I think that if you don't like what they're saying in their lyrics, then just don't listen to them

Preamble to the Constitution

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
